Atlantic Theater Company is the Off-Broadway theater that produces great plays simply and truthfully utilizing an artistic ensemble.  Founded in 1985 by David Mamet and William H. Macy, Atlantic Theater Company has produced over 100 shows, earning twelve Tony Awards, thirteen Obie Awards, nine Lucille Lortel Awards (including the 2006 Award for Outstanding Body of Work), four Outer Critics Circle Awards, a Drama League Award and a Drama Critics Circle Award.  Atlantic’s productions have included the Tony Award winning Spring Awakening and The Beauty Queen of Leenane as well as The Lieutenant of Inishmore by Martin McDonagh, Woody Allen’s Writer’s Block, the revivals of American Buffalo and Edmond by David Mamet, Almost an Evening by Ethan Coen and Port Authority by Conor McPherson.

Atlantic holds a unique position in the New York Off-Broadway theater community:

  • Atlantic maintains two theaters in the Chelsea neighborhood – the Linda Gross Theater on West 20th Street, which houses all four Mainstage productions and Atlantic Stage 2, an intimate, state-of-the-art black-box theater located on West 16th Street.
  • In addition to producing revivals and new plays at the Linda Gross Theater, Atlantic is dedicated each season to cultivating new writers by producing at least two fully-realized productions of new works at Atlantic Stage 2Atlantic also maintains a formalized Commissioning Program launched in 2006 and the Next Page Reading Series
  • Now in its 25th year, the Atlantic Acting School is the only program in the world offering full training in the Practical Aesthetics Technique.
  • Atlantic’s Arts Education Program serves more than 3,000 students annually in 24 NYC public schools, providing arts education that was otherwise cut from their curriculum: the Students and Educators Program serves high school students and the Atlantic for Kids program produces shows for elementary and middle school children.

Because of the support of generous individuals, we are able to take the artistic risks that distinguish Atlantic in the New York theater community.  Individual contributions are an essential part of our livelihood and we need your support to continue our mission of telling great stories to our ever-growing audiences.

Your gift will have a direct impact on our ability to produce bold and challenging theater and expand our play development and education program to serve the next generation of artists and audiences.
